Welcoming new faces

On 15 July 2018, we were delighted to welcome four new members at a special Café Church Holy Communion led by Rev Fran Rhys. The new members were Hannah Davey and Sam Davey who were confirmed and received into membership, and Ian Wilson and Margaret Wood who were received by transfer. This was a very happy and exciting occasion. The informal style of Café Church was especially suitable for Hannah and Sam, who are both teenagers. The coffee and croissants and muffins served during the service were greatly appreciated and unanimously voted the best in Leicestershire!

We have now welcomed our new minister, Rev Derek McLean who led the United Service of Holy Communion on 9 September assisted by Rev Kim Ford from St Cuthbert’s. He is to lead our special Big Harvest Welcome Service on 30 September when our members have been given special invitations to hand to people they know who do not attend any other church. The service will be followed by a Bring and Share Lunch provided by church members for all visitors who can stay on. If everyone who has been invited turns up, we have been assured there is no need to worry; it will be just like the feeding of the five thousand!

Derek and his wife, Chris, join us from the West Hertfordshire and Borders Circuit where he was based in King’s Langley. We are very much looking forward to sharing in ministry with him and have no doubt that his leadership will be outstanding. Sadly, this means that we have had to say ‘farewell’ to Rev Fran Rhys who has looked after us with great sensitivity and care for the last year. The good news is that Fran is staying on in the Circuit so we shall have the pleasure of seeing her still from time to time.

We continue to sense the guidance of God’s Spirit as we look forward to the future with hope and confidence.
