COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

We’ve always said that the church is the people and not the building. Over the last few months we’ve had to put that to the test as we live out our Christian discipleship in new and different ways.

In light of the Coronavirus situation, almost all of our church-organised and external activities which normally take place on our premises have had to be cancelled for the time being.

We’ve continued to support some essential work continuing to take place in other church buildings, such as the Food Bank at Oadby Methodist Church.

Worship

All worship services for Great Glen Methodists have been online since March.

We worship together each Sunday. Our services are held by video-conference which also offers the opportunity for some people to join by telephone. Others are receiving written material so they can participate. If you want to join us for worship please contact Our Minister, Reverend Derek McLean at derek.mclean@methodist.org.uk, who will be pleased to help.

Government guidance has indicated that some services could take place within church buildings from the 4th July. However, we are taking very seriously our responsibility to protect people’s health and we are realistic about the constraints on worship services which are necessary. In addition, Great Glen is only just outside area covered by the extended Leicester lockdown.

As a result we will not resume worship in the church until our Church Council has approved all the necessary precautions.

Prayer
Most Methodist churches are not normally open for Private Prayer. In our Methodist tradition, prayer is usually in our own homes and in small groups, or in the gathered acts of worship.

However, at Great Glen we normally have the chapel open for prayer on a Saturday morning, and our many premises users frequently pop in to use the beautiful chapel. We hope to reopen for prayer when that is practical.

We continue to pray individually and to share items for prayer. If you have a particular concern you would like to be held in prayer, please contact the minister, indicating whether that is confidential or whether you would like it shared with the people on our prayer chain. (If you are asking for prayers for somebody else please let us know that you have permission to share that information.)

Food Bank
We are continuing to collect for the Food Bank. Although the closure of the building means that we can no longer drop things off as we did previously, we would be grateful to receive donations. For further information, please call 07913 525718.

Other activities
Many activities that take place on our premises have been suspended, some are meeting in other ways. Please contact the leader of your group for the latest information.
