Christmas 2015

christmas 2For 2015, our Carol Service on 22 December took the form of a Songs of Praise with Carols instead of hymns chosen there and by members of the congregation. This provided an interesting and enjoyable mix, all played by Gill, our organist, at sight, without a hiccup! We are grateful to her for her flexibility. In his teaching, our minister, Paul, introduced us in a light-hearted way, to the Hebrew spelling of Emmanuel and helped us explore its meaning for us today.

On Christmas Eve at 8pm, a big congregation shared in the magic of Candlelit Communion. Although we have been enjoying this service for many years, it never ceases to delight. ‘Now it really feels like Christmas,’ was on many lips as we went home rejoicing –

Only to return on Christmas morning for our ‘Birthday Party for Jesus.’ A goodly congregation of all ages had great fun, singing modern carols, making Christingles, letting off Party Poppers and sharing a birthday cake to celebrate. Trying to draw God [!] was very hard – not to say impossible – but helped us to realise and give thanks for the wonderful truth that God in Christ comes as a baby and grows to a man – a man who dies for us on a cross to show just how much God loves us.
