Big Harvest Welcome 2018

The Big Harvest Welcome on 30 September was a great occasion. A full church was treated to a tour de force by our new minister, Rev Derek McLean aided and abetted by his wife Chris in charge of various hi-tech devices which meant that, in addition to the rousing singing of the good old harvest hymns and some delightful modern worship songs, we saw a video from ‘All We Can,’ the Methodist Church’s own development charity. All in all a very happy and compelling act of worship mixing humour with serious intent and helping us to focus on God’s unfailingly generous provision for our needs and our gladness in being able to share God’s bounty with others whose well-being is threatened by poverty and hardship.

After the service, we all went to the hall where a superb spread had been provided by church members for their guests and themselves. Jokingly, the advertising had declared, ‘It’s like the feeding of the 5000; there’ll be enough and to spare’ – and there was. The spare food was shared out.

The non-perishable items from the harvest display will be taken to the Salvation Army for distribution via their Food Bank.

A real Harvest Thanksgiving, praise God!
